Karen Limmer Mental Health and Community Wellness Fund
Karen Elizabeth Limmer, 41, of Houston, Texas, passed away on June 17, 2026. Though her time on earth was far too short, Karen's legacy lives on through the many lives she touched as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, nurse, friend, and faithful follower of Christ. From an early age, Karen possessed a compassionate spirit, a strong sense of purpose, and a thorough desire to help others—qualities that would define both her personal life and her distinguished nursing career. An outstanding student, she finished at the top of her class and she continued her education at The University of Texas at Austin, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2007, and later received her Master of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 2011.
Karen devoted nearly twenty years to oncology nursing, caring for patients and families during some of life's most difficult moments. She spent thirteen years serving patients at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and four years at Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. Karen was passionate about providing comfort, dignity, and exceptional care to those battling cancer, and she considered it a privilege to walk alongside her patients and their families through their journeys.
Her calling to care for others extended far beyond the walls of the hospital. Family and friends frequently turned to Karen for medical advice and support, and she was always willing to share her knowledge, offer guidance, and provide reassurance during difficult times. She was a tireless advocate for both physical and mental health and encouraged those she loved to care for themselves with the same compassion she showed others. She was an example of showing love, kindness, and respect to everyone she encountered. Karen had a special gift for seeking out those who felt isolated, overlooked, or in need of encouragement, and she made each person feel seen and valued. She believed everyone deserved kindness, dignity, and a place to belong. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Karen believed in helping those who struggle with mental health challenges, and supporting this mission would be a meaningful way to honor her memory and continue her legacy of caring for others. In dedication to that personal devotion, her family has set up the Karen Limmer Mental Health and Community Wellness Fund which goes to supporting mental health and wellness.
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." — John 14:27
